Jan Pickering

Jan has been teaching Pilates since 2007 when she trained with Modern Pilates, which takes a clinical approach.  She teaches group Pilates classes and one-to-one Reformer sessions, having gained STOTT Pilates Certified status in 2017, as well as working one-to-one with clients at the Foster Clinic in Gorleston-on-sea where she has enjoyed seeing Pilates help clients manage conditions as they develop strength, body awareness and confidence whilst learning how to move with ease.  She is also continues to work in Further Education, delivering teacher training at East Coast College in Great Yarmouth as well as teaching on the Foundation degree in Sport Health and Exercise, University of Suffolk.

Jan’s involvement in teaching exercise began in 1986 when she trained with YMCA in Exercise to Music and later Gym Instructor, going on  to be involved in teaching and assessing on YMCA courses for exercise teachers.  Underpinned by a lifelong personal involvement in dance and exercise,  her practice is based on the conviction that moving well promotes optimal health and wellbeing.

After completing MSc Dance Science in 2012, Jan has more recently trained in Spinesafe Pilates, Diamond Pilates for Pelvic floor health and Barre Pilates Method, also updating practice by completing workshops in scoliosis, fascia  and movement, diastasis and osteoporosis.

As the current pandemic has interrupted face-to-face delivery, Jan is grateful to have been able to adapt to online methods of keeping clients active and connected.
