The knee is one of the most commonly injured joints in the body, especially for patients who participate in sport. Acute injuries typically affect the ligaments and the menisci. The vastus, part of the extensors of the knee, is especially prone to weakness whilst the hamstrings are prone to tightness, all of which tend to cause a muscle imbalance which leads to dysfunction in the knee. Common knee dysfunctions linked with muscle imbalance include anterior knee pain, ACL injury and knee OA.
Students will
- Review functional anatomy
- Explore patterns of dysfunction
- Experience and develop techniques in gentle mobilisation
- Be able to blend muscle energy technique (METs) and Dr Tom Hendrickson’s soft tissue mobilisations, learning the skills of a ground breaking treatment
- Investigate working from the patients perceived position of comfort
