Unique to the UK:
Like our unique ‘Bikefit-Package’, our unique ‘Cycling Injuries’ workshop is considered to be the only one of its kind within the UK and is designed to complement our Bikefit-Package workshop. As such, they run concurrent, over the same weekend. When combined these two workshops provide a very comprehensive understanding of the main injury mechanisms (cause) associated with the most common cycling related overuse injuries. A combined 10% discount is available when enrolling on both over the same weekend.

Workshop Aims:
This unique evidence based workshop identifies the most common overuse cycling related injuries e.g. knee, back, perineum, hand and foot. It then proceeds to examine the crucial relationship between man-and-machine through the three main categories of injury-mechanism categories i.e. biomechanical deficits, musculoskeletal deficits and improper body-position (incorrect bikefit). Thereafter, using a combination of science and practical experience the workshop examines key strategies for effective treatment and injury prevention for each of the aforementioned mechanisms.

Workshop Rationale:
Cycling is a fully inclusive activity. Cycling embraces all ages, all abilities and all genders – owing to its multiple established health, environmental and socioeconomic benefits. Cycling is used for commuting, recreation, racing, triathlon, rehabilitation after joint replacement and cardiac surgery and is highly recommended for the prevention of cardiovascular disease. As a result of this recent epic resurgence in cycling there has been a significant increase in the number of riders seeking treatment for cycling related overuse injuries.

Efficient, injury free cycling requires perfect harmony between man-and-machine. Harmony can be disrupted by anatomical, biomechanical or mechanical deficits. Research clearly demonstrates that musculoskeletal (anatomical) deficits, lower-limb (biomechanical) deficits and improper body-position (mechanical bikefit deficit) represent the major cause of cycling related overuse injuries. However, very few Therapists fully appreciate the injury mechanisms (causation) involved. Cycling related overuse injuries cannot be effectively resolved without removing the cause. Therefore, our workshop is designed to look at the critical interaction between man-and-machine. The purpose is to identify and subsequently address the cause (injury mechanism) responsible for injury.

Suitable for:
This workshop is suitable for all forms of Therapists and Coaches involved with cyclists and/or triathletes. The workshop is ideal for proactive Therapists seeking to work with a Cycling team, or looking to form a multidisciplinary team – comprising of Therapist and Cycling / Triathlon Coach. Alternatively, it is suitable for Therapists wanting to form an alliance with large cycling shops with the aim of treating and preventing overuse cycling related injuries.
